OVERVIEW
Route 7 Review, established in 2013 and published by Utah Tech University, has been in circulation for more than a decade. Published annually, the journal welcomes submissions of poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and visual art from writers and artists residing anywhere in the world.
Our submission period runs from Monday, September 15 - Monday, November 10 at 11:59 p.m. (MST)
GENERAL
- We only accept submissions through Submittable.
- We do not accept previously published work, regardless of format or circulation.
- We accept simultaneous submissions as long as you withdraw your submission if your work is accepted elsewhere. Please use the Submittable "withdraw" function to withdraw entire submissions or individual pieces.
- We do not charge a submission fee and are a non-paying market.
- Please include a third-person biographical note of 75 words or fewer with your submission. We will include it in our publication should we accept your work.
- Upon publication, all rights will revert back to the author.
- Route 7 Review contributors will receive an email when their work is published on our website www.r7review.com.
- All submissions will receive notice of acceptance or decline by Monday, December 15, 2025.
We will NOT publish:
- Any written work that is over the word limit for that specific genre.
- ANY work generated entirely or in part with ChatGPT or other AI.

FORMATTING GUIDELINES
All written submissions should be formatted according to the following guidelines:
- 12 pt. Times New Roman font
- 1-inch margins
- Double-spaced
- Submit .doc, .docx, or .pdf file
CREATIVE NONFICTION
- No more than 1 document per submission
- Up to 5,000 words in length
- We will only accept one piece per writer, per submission period.
FICTION AND BOOK REVIEW GUIDELINES
Fiction
- No more than 1 document per submission
- Up to 5,000 words
- We will only accept one piece per writer, per submission period.
Book Reviews
- No more than 1 document per submission
- Up to 1,500 words per review
- We will only accept one piece per writer, per submission period.
POETRY
- Submit up to 5 poems, 15 pages total.
- Include all poems within a single document.
- We will only accept one submission of up to 5 poems per writer, per submission period.
VISUAL ART
We only accept .jpeg, .tif, and .png files.
- We accept all forms of visual arts including photography, painting and drawing, digital art, 3D sculpture/ceramics, etc.
- We accept up to 5 visual art pieces per submission.
- We will only accept one submission of up to 5 pieces per writer, per submission period.
- All images must be cropped to size.
- All images must have a resolution of at least 300 dpi.
- No borders, watermarks, or graphics overlaid.
For 3D art, we ask the following in addition to other requirements:
- 3D artwork must be photographed against a plain white, gray, or black background or a black to white gradient background.
- A clear image must be submitted, cropped to size, with appropriate lighting
MONTHLY SUBMISSION CAP
Our submissions are currently capped at 300 per month across all genres, at which point we close until the next month. If there are no open calls for submissions during an open reading period, we have reached our cap and will reopen the first day of the next month.
